Six Things to Consider Before Your Home Cleaner Arrives
So you book your first cleaning and you have to be excited to see your house recover to its former glory! But did you know that you can do a number of things proactively to ensure that your cleaning service runs as smoothly as possible?
We have prepared a short checklist of things that you should consider attending before the big cleaning day.

Ask questions
- Read more about your company's policy! Most companies must have a frequently asked questions page that addresses the questions that often arise.
- This may include details about what is included in a standard cleanup, satisfaction guarantees, insurance policy or referral programs that are available to you.
- Before you book, make sure that all your questions are answered and that you feel comfortable with the level of communication that you have received from the company.
Select Consistent schedule
If you book weekly cleaning, biweekly cleaning or monthly cleaning let your company know which days and times work best for you to ensure that you are satisfied with the scheme with which they have set you up. They will do their best to match you with a cleaner who has the same availability.
If you decide to use Elite Housekeeping for your house cleaning, we ask you to enter these preferences online during the registration phase. You can also adjust them on the road if things change (and they often do - especially with children and busy schedules)!
Write notes
Think about what you would like your cleaner to know before they arrive. If you supply supplies, where are they located? Do you have difficult vacuum or hidden central vac outlets? Do you have pets and what are their names?
All this information can be very useful for an incoming cleaner and can ensure that the appointment runs smoothly.
If you use Elite Housekeeping, we have a section online on your customer dashboard where you can write notes directly to your cleaner! These can be updated at any time, even the morning before the appointment.
Avoid locks
If you are not home for your appointments, decide how you want your cleaner to have access to the house. Do you have keyless entry to your home? Can the keys be left in a designated area on the property, or with a caretaker if applicable? Is access available through the garage?
We recommend a lockbox if you do not have the options above.
Prepare your pets
If you have furry friends, are they at home during the cleaning appointments? If so, are they the odd type, or will they interfere with their own business? No matter how cute they are, they can affect your cleaning - in a negative way!
It might be best to leave your pets in a different area for cleaning. Here at Elite Housekeeping we will make sure that we match you with someone who loves pets if you have one, but if they distract you, it might be best to make arrangements for it.
Clear
It takes 30 minutes for your vacuum cleaner to arrive to "pick up" anything that is out of place, a huge help! Your cleaners don't know where these items belong - and they have come to clean, rather than to organize them.

Ensuring that paper, toys, clothing and junk are accounted for, ensures that the vacuum cleaner can concentrate on the things you value more (and probably hates doing!) This naturally includes dusting, flooring, baseboards and scrubbing toilets!
